Centennial Drive North Upgrade Project
Overview
The City of Martensville is moving forward with Phase 1 of the Centennial Drive North Upgrade Project, beginning on May 22nd, 2026, with a projected end date of September 1st, 2026. This key infrastructure investment was identified as a priority in the City’s 2026 Budget with partial funding provided through the Canada Community-Building Fund Program.
This project will update a section of Centennial Drive North by replacing aging roadway infrastructure, improving storm drainage capacity, and enhancing safety and accessibility for motorists, pedestrians, nearby residents, and local businesses. During construction, road closures and temporary access routes will be in place to help maintain access for residents, businesses, and emergency services while work is underway.
Project Maps
Schedule & Temporary Access Road
- Off-road work and mobilization has commenced, with full mobilization and water drainage work on the west side of Centennial Drive scheduled to begin on May 22nd, 2026. This work will not require any road closures or traffic detours.
- A temporary roadway must be constructed to maintain access to properties and businesses located adjacent (east) of the Centennial Drive North project. Construction of the temporary roadway (illustrated in red) is scheduled to begin May 26th, 2026, and is expected to be completed by June 1st, 2026. Access to businesses from Centennial Drive will be maintained throughout this work.
- Beginning June 1st, 2026, a section of Centennial Drive will be closed and the detour plan will be implemented. Access to businesses adjacent to the Centennial Drive North project area will be maintained via the temporary roadway (illustrated in red) and will be available from the north (heading south) direction only.
- The project is projected to be completed by September 1st, 2026. The construction schedule is dependent on favourable weather and site conditions, and dates or timelines may be adjusted in the event of delays.
- To help maintain the project schedule, crews will also be working on alternating Saturdays throughout construction. No work will take place on Sundays.

Project Updates
August 28, 2026
Paving was completed at the end of last week and traffic marking work began this week. Line painting was delayed from starting Monday due to rainfall, but is expected to be completed today. Centennial Drive is expected to be open by the end today, provided no final issues arise or weather delays.
The temporary road has continued to hold up well, with only minor maintenance required. Assuming Centennial Drive opens on Friday, the contractor plans to begin removing the temporary road on Saturday. Trucks will be staged around the temporary road to load and haul away the material.
Prior to reopening, a crew will install jersey barriers with reflectors along the Centennial medians to help alert motorists to the new roadway configuration. These barriers will serve as a temporary measure until permanent reflective signage can be installed in the area.
Next week’s work is expected to include final cleanup work around the storm drain outfall, as well as seeding within the road right-of-way.
Deficiencies were identified within several manholes along Centennial Drive. Completing the necessary repairs will require temporary work areas to be marked off within the centre lane of Centennial Drive. This work will not require any additional road closures.
Following the opening of Centennial Drive, all traffic enforcement and detour signage in the area will be removed.
The project is substantially complete and remains on schedule, with the original completion date on track.
August 20, 2026
This week, the contractor completed installing the remaining granular base on Centennial Drive. Crews are currently paving the road and plan to finish paving this Friday.
Next week, the survey crew will met with the line painting subcontractor to lay out pavement markings. They intend to paint lines and install the in-laid pavement markings during the week. The contractor will be working on landscaping the ditches and any other minor cleanup items. This is the contractor’s off weekend, so no one will be onsite Saturday.
The temporary access roadway has been holding up. The contractor fixed up the road from last week’s rain on Saturday, and since that time, have not had to perform any additional maintenance. The adjacent laneway continues to be monitored regularly, with maintenance completed as needed.
As part of ongoing traffic management, a jersey barrier was installed today at the intersection of 1st Avenue North and Baycroft Drive. The barrier prevents motorists from traveling north on 1st Avenue onto Baycroft and prevents motorists from exiting Baycroft southbound onto 1st This was done to help manage traffic and improve safety in the area due to increased traffic volumes and heavy vehicle traffic associated with the closure and detours. Sidewalks remain open for pedestrians. The barrier will remain in place until this project is complete. The City has notified the RCMP, Fire Department, and Loraas Disposal of the barrier installation, in case route adjustments are required.
Overall, the project remains on schedule and is nearing completion. A final walkthrough is expected to happen within the next two weeks.
August 13, 2026
This week, the contractor completed concrete pouring for curbs, medians, and sidewalks in the project area. Crews are currently finishing the installation of the remaining granular base along Centennial Drive.
Next week, work will focus on completing the granular base and preparing Centennial Drive for asphalt paving. Asphalt paving is currently anticipated to begin next week. The contractor will also begin placing topsoil and completing general site cleanup as the project moves toward completion.
The temporary road has continued to perform well, with the contractor completing minor maintenance and touch-ups as required. The laneway continues to be monitored regularly, with maintenance completed as needed.
The City continues to work with the RCMP on traffic monitoring and enforcement along the detour routes.
The project remains on schedule, and the contractor will be working again this Saturday to continue moving the project forward.
August 6, 2026
This week, the contractor poured concrete curbs and sidewalks on the east side of Centennial Drive. Tomorrow, crews will begin pouring the median curbs and will continue working on Saturday to complete the remaining concrete work.
The temporary road has continued to hold up, with minimal touch-ups required from the contractor. The laneway continues to be monitored regularly, with maintenance completed as needed.
The City continues to work with the RCMP to monitor traffic and support enforcement along the designated detour routes.
Next week, the contractor’s road crew will be on-site preparing the road base. Toward the end of the week, work is expected to begin in preparation for paving Centennial Drive.
Overall, the project remains on schedule.
July 30, 2026
This week, the road contractor completed installation of the required granular base, allowing work to begin on pouring concrete curbs and sidewalks.
The temporary road has continued to hold up, with minimal touch-ups required from the contractor. In addition, the adjacent laneway to the worksite continues to be monitored regularly and maintained as needed.
The City continues to work with the RCMP on traffic monitoring and enforcement along the detour routes.
The project is back on schedule, with the continued hot weather over the past few weeks helping crews make strong progress.
July 23, 2026
This week, road crews completed excavation work and hauling of excess materials from the work site. Crews have also finished installing the first lift of granular material on the west lane of Centennial.
The temporary roadway has been holding up well. The contractor continues to monitor its condition and add gravel as needed.
The adjacent laneway to the work site was graded this past week and is in overall good condition. The lane will continue to be checked regularly.
The City continues to work with the RCMP on traffic monitoring and enforcement along the detour routes.
Coming up this week, crews will continue installing granular material on the roadway. Concrete curb pouring may begin later in the week.
The project remains slightly behind schedule due to earlier weather delays. To help recover lost time, the contractor will be working this Saturday.
July 16, 2026
This week’s roadwork progress has involved the contractor continuing excavation work on the west side of Centennial Drive, removing and hauling excess material from the site. Crews have also begun installing the granular road subbase and weeping tile.
Since additional gravel was added to the temporary roadway last week, conditions have remained stable and acceptable.
The laneway adjacent to the work area was inspected this week and no additional maintenance was required. Regular inspections will continue throughout the project.
The City continues to work with the RCMP to monitor traffic and support enforcement efforts along the detour route.
The project remains slightly behind schedule due to previous weather-related delays. However, by completing granular installation while excavation continues, the contractor expects to recover some lost time.
The contractor is not scheduled to work on Saturday, July 18. Next week, excavation work will continue, with crews installing granular material on the east side of the roadway.
July 9, 2026
The road contractor has continued excavation work on Centennial this week, including removing excess material and exposing utilities around the site for future work. While most excavation work was anticipated to be completed this week, recent wet weather has slowed progress. Crews have worked on moving dirt and water to improve site conditions and prepare for trucks again this week.
On the temporary access roadway, additional material was added where potholes were becoming an issue. The added material will help the contractor with better road maintenance going forward.
Additionally, the contractor widened the temporary access to the garage south of Smokehaus to improve access where the space between the future sidewalk and the existing driveway was limited.
The contractor plans to work on Saturday, July 11. Coming up this week, excavation and material removal work will continue. Crews will also begin preparing the roadway for granular installation, anticipated to start next week.
The project is currently slightly behind schedule due to recent rainfall and site conditions.
July 3, 2026
Road construction on Centennial Drive has experienced minor delays due to rainy weather conditions. Although recent rainfall resulted in the loss of several workdays, the overall project timeline remains on track.
The road contractor spent the first part of the week excavating Centennial Drive in prepartion for concrete curb and sidewalk installation. Steady rain created challenging site conditions, requiring crews to spend considerable time pumping water and allowing the area to dry before work could continue. As a result, the contractor has left the site for the remainder of the week while conditions improve. The underground contractor remains on site completing adjustments to an existing sanitary manhole.
Coming up this week, the road contractor will resume excavation and removal of excess material along Centennial Drive to prepare for curb and sidewalk pouring.
Despite the wet weather, the temporary roadway has held up well and has required only minimal maintenance. The adjacent laneway continues to be monitored regulary, with grading completed as required.
In response to public safety concerns regarding increased traffic volumes and speeding along 1st Avenue North, the City will be installing a temporary three-way stop at the intersection of 1st Avenue North and 6th Street North. Billboard-style signs located at Centennial Drive and 3rd Street, as well as at North Hills Park, have been updated to highlight that all businesses on Centennial remain open during construction.
June 25, 2026
The project continues to progress and remains on schedule. This week, the underground contractor finished backfilling of trenches. Roadway contractors moved on to the site and began preparatory work including locating existing utilities.
Road construction work occuring along Centennial Drive, including excavating and hauling away excess material, will continue.
On the temporary roadway access, additional materials were added to address rutting and potholes, as well as smooth out the access road and embankment. The adjacent laneway was also checked mid-week and was graded. With potential for rain in the coming days, inspection is planning to check the condition of the temporary road and make touch-ups as needed.
In response to concerns regarding increased traffic and detours, a heightened enforcement presence was maintained along 1st Avenue North and Baycroft Drive, particularly mid-week.
Crews were expected to be working on Saturday, June 27th – but this may change due to weather conditions.
June 18, 2026
Construction continues to progress on schedule along Centennial Drive. This week, crews continued storm sewer work, including the installation of catch basins, storm sewer and force main pipes, and manholes. The remaining underground work and backfilling of trenches will be completed over the coming days, after which the underground contractor will demobilize from the site.
Next week, roadway construction will begin, with crews preparing for and installing curb and sidewalk base. This work will continue into the following week.
The temporary roadway continues to be monitored and maintained, with grading and additional material added to address rutting and potholes. Drainage improvements were also completed around the temporary culvert to help maintain proper water flow.
The City continues to monitor traffic along detour routes. Increased enforcement remains in place on 1st Avenue North and Baycroft Drive, and directional signage has been updated to better guide customers to businesses located south of the construction area.
The underground contractor will be working on Saturday, June 20, to complete the remaining work and site cleanup. Overall, the project remains on schedule with no significant impacts to the planned timeline.
June 11, 2026
Work continues to progress on the Centennial Drive North Improvement Project. Crews have completed most of the storm sewer pipe and manhole installations and are expected to finish this phase of work shortly. Once complete, the contractor will begin backfilling the roadway and removing excess material from the site.
In the coming week, work will focus on the installation of catch basins and the main junction manhole along Centennial Drive.
Roadway assessments have been completed, and grading work will be undertaken to address rutting and potholes and improve temporary driving conditions. The adjacent laneway was also reviewed, and no additional maintenance work was determined to be necessary at this time.
The City continues to monitor traffic impacts along detour routes, particularly on 1st Avenue North. Additional traffic enforcement and speed display signs are being used to address speeding concerns. Project signage has also been adjusted following recent wind damage, and updates are being made to directional signage near Centennial Drive and Baycroft Drive to better assist customers accessing local businesses.
At this time, the project remains on schedule despite periodic rainfall throughout the week.
June 4, 2026
Commencement of the partial closure of Centennial Drive began on June 2nd, as well as the start of roadways work. This week also saw detour and street signage placed along routes, with additional detour signs and barricades added along routes including 1st Ave. North.
Roadways work includes the milling of Centennial Drive. Excavation and trenching of Centennial Drive will continue in the upcoming week for the storm pipeline and catch basins. This includes scheduled work for Saturday, June 6th.
Despite precipitation through the early part of the week, the work schedule has not been altered.

Back Alley Improvement Project – 225 Main Street
Project Overview
Rear lane improvement work will begin on the alley to the east of 2nd Avenue North, just north of Mainstreet, on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. The work will be limited to the rear lane roadway (see project map below) and will include the removal of existing material, installation of the required base materials, and asphalt paving.
The project is estimated to take 4 weeks to complete. Work will be carried out in three
phases, beginning with Phase 1 and progressing west through Phases 2 and 3.
Each phase will consist of preparation work involving the removal of existing material and
installation of required base materials. Once all phases are complete, final asphalt paving
work will begin, starting with Phase 1.
Construction Impacts
- During construction, the highlighted lane will be closed in phases as shown, to allow crews to safely complete the required roadwork.
- Garbage/recycling collection will continue as scheduled. The City is working with Loraas Disposal to ensure collection continues throughout the project.
- Residents whose primary vehicle access is from the lane will need to make alternate
parking arrangements while work is taking place adjacent to their property. - Construction will be staged to ensure fire and emergency response vehicles can access the lane if required.
- Temporary impacts may include limited access, noise, and increased activity in the area.
Work is scheduled Monday through Friday during regular work hours.
