Schedule

Waste and recycling is collected by Loraas Disposal on an alternating schedule every two weeks.

If you have questions about your collection schedule or service, contact Loraas Disposal or call (306) 242-2300 Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. 

Collection Tips

  •  Do not overload your cart.
  • Cart lids must be completely closed and carts in an upright position to prevent windblown litter.
  • Any material placed outside of your cart including items placed on top of the lid will not be collected and can result in a missed collection.
  •  Have your cart out and accessible by 7am on your collection day as collection times do vary due to weather, vehicle issues and or traffic. Collection times are between 7AM and 7PM 
  • Ensure your cart is facing the correct direction with the wheels facing the curb.
  • Place your cart so there is at least 1.2 meters (4 feet) of space on all sides between your cart and all obstacles (cars, other carts, fence).
  • Place your cart on even surfaces to prevent it from tipping over.
     

Recycle Specific Guidelines

  •  Place all recyclable items loose in your cart. Do not bag your items.
  • Cutting down all large cardboard and cardboard boxes will help prevent material from jamming during collection.
  • Any non recyclable materials such as Styrofoam and plastic bags will not be collected. 

Need an Extra Bin?

​​​​​O​​ne garbage cart and one recycling cart is provided as part of your annual property tax.

Additional carts are provided on a pre-paid annual subscription basis. Pick up days remain the same as your current schedule.

  • Garbage carts: $171.99 per year
  • Recycling carts: $111.08 per year

Northern Landfill

Solid Waste can be dropped off at the Northern Landfill, located off Highway 12 (turn east on Lutheran Road). The Landfill is operated by Loraas Disposal.

Back Lane and General Clean-up

Each year the City offers a Fall Service that will prevent the accumulation of trash and debris that may end up in lanes, the City Yard Waste depot or dumped in business or contractor dumpsters.  Check the event calendar or resident notice about this year's program.  Including accepted and non-accepted materials.

Foxtail Barley (foxtail) has become a more prolific weed in recent years and the City of Martensville is reminding residents that it's their responsibility to control all weeds on their property, including foxtail. Doing so helps keep Martensville beautiful, healthy, and safe for everyone to enjoy. To learn more about foxtail and how you can do your part to stop the spread, click here

Recycling Programs

In addition the Loraas ‘Blue Bin’ as part of regular recycling collection, we encourage residents to recycle to cut down waste and to prevent potentially hazardous materials from entering landfills and ecosystems.  In 2016 we hosted our first Household Hazardous Waste Collection day, providing a collection site for residents to bring materials not meant for the local landfill.  Watch for updates regarding future dates for Household Hazardous Waste Collection.

Organics Compost Service

This  new service launched in 2017 through Loraas Organics. This service is optional and is by subscription only.  This program will run from May  to October 31st annually. Their is a monthly cost to residents, which will be added to their City of Martensville Utility bill.

  • Carts must be out by 7:00 am for pick-up with lids completely closed. Overfilled carts may not be emptied.
  • Loraas will not return for carts not out prior to 7:00 am on pick-up day.  
  • These carts are for Plants waste, Fruits, Vegetables, Coffee grounds & filters, Egg shells, breads, grains, pastas, proteins and bones, solid dairy products
  • For questions as to what can and cannot go into your cart please call Loraas Organics at 306-242-2300 or visit their website at www.loraas.ca.
  • Do not separate or bag compost.
  • Do not place liquids, proteins, dairy, fat trimmings, oils, baked goods, coffee pods, bio plastics, glass, pet waste or metal in your green bin. 

Organics Collection Tips and Guidelines

Grass Clipping Site

A  grass clipping and yard waste site was opened in 2015.  The site is open 7 days a week and is located along 10th Ave S., south of the off-leash dog park.  The site is under monitoring to prevent the dumping of garbage.  Please note, the site is not open to commercial contractors.

Accepted Materials

  • Leaves, grass, sod, top soil, non-elm branches and stumps, tree trimmings

Items Not Accepted

  • elm wood, saw dust, lumber, wood chips, building materials (stone, brick, clay, sand and gravel) and any other waste product

Household Hazardous Waste

The City of Martensville holds a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day once a year to provide residents the opportunity to properly dispose of items that can potentially contaminate and be a danger to the environment or landfills.

Acid - battery acid, toilet bowl cleaner, sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid
Adhesives - contact cement, resin, glue, sealer, caulking 
Aerosols - hair spray, insect repellant, lubricant spray, furniture cleaner 
Automotive - used oil, oil filters, antifreeze, carburetor cleaner, batteries, fuel, windshield wiper solution, transmission fluid, brake fluid, empty oil containers and pails
Batteries - alkali, dry cell, NiCad, lithium, lead-acid (automotive)
Cleaners - floor, carpet, clothing, oven, glass, car wax, disinfectant, aluminum cleaner
