The City of Martensville is committed to building an inclusive and accessibile community for all of its residents. To help guide this initiative, City Council has established the Martensville Accessibility Advisory Committee (MAAC) under the Accessible Saskatchewan Act (2023).
MAAC will work to provide advice to Council, identify and help remove accessibility barriers, and support the creation of the City's Accessibility Plan, which will be completed by December 2025.
On December 3, 2023, the Government of Saskatchewan enacted The Accessible Saskatchewan Act to improve accessibility and ensure all individuals can fully participate in their communities. Under this legislation, the provincial government was required to complete its accessibility plan by December 3, 2024, while designated municipalities must develop and adopt their own accessibility plans by December 3, 2025.
The Act also mandates that, in developing their accessibility plans, municipalities must consult:
Our Accessibility Plan recognizes accessibility as a shared responsibility that strengthens the entire community. This plan reflects the City’s commitment to fostering a community that is inclusive, accessible, and equitable for all residents.
The MAAC is a Select Comittee of Council, established under Section 55 of The Cities Act (Saskatchewan). It was created to ensure accessibility remains a priority in our services, programs, and community spaces.
