Martensville Accessibility Advisory Committee (MAAC)

Martensville Accessibility Advisory Committee (MAAC)

The City of Martensville is committed to building an inclusive and accessibile community for all of its residents. To help guide this initiative, City Council has established the Martensville Accessibility Advisory Committee (MAAC) under the Accessible Saskatchewan Act (2023).

MAAC will work to provide advice to Council, identify and help remove accessibility barriers, and support the creation of the City's Accessibility Plan, which will be completed by December 2025.

Background Information

On December 3, 2023, the Government of Saskatchewan enacted The Accessible Saskatchewan Act to improve accessibility and ensure all individuals can fully participate in their communities. Under this legislation, the provincial government was required to complete its accessibility plan by December 3, 2024, while designated municipalities must develop and adopt their own accessibility plans by December 3, 2025.

The Act also mandates that, in developing their accessibility plans, municipalities must consult:

  • Persons with disabilities,
  • Caregivers of persons with disabilities, and/or
  • Individuals or organizations that work with persons with disabilities
