    Update on COVID-19 Pandemic- City of Martensville

    City Underlines its Pandemic Planning as COVID-19 Prevention Increases Across the Region

    With one confirmed case of COVID-19 now confirmed in both Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and in keeping with world-wide efforts to contain the spread of the virus as much as possible, the City of Martensville, together with the Prairie Sky Chamber of Commerce, has determined it is in the best interests of our residents, business owners, and visitors, to cancel our Business Expo, which was scheduled for March 13-14, 2020.

    Kent Muench, Mayor of the City of Martensville states, “We will continue to monitor the escalation of cases of COVID-19 and will continue to respond as necessary to ensure the security and safety of our residents and indeed residents everywhere.”

    We are working with our Fire Department and Emergency Measures Organization to update our all-hazards EMO plan to include a Pandemic Plan in response to the world-wide escalation of the COVID-19 virus.  We also are prepared to take direction and guidance from the Saskatchewan Health Authority. The plan focuses on maintaining continuity of essential service in a pandemic event because of the challenges that can be placed on human resources.  Procedures to mitigate risks such as social distancing, infection control, personal hygiene and cross-training are important for continuity plans are core elements of this plan.

    Preventative actions include:

    • Practice proper cough and sneezing etiquette (into the bend of your elbow);
    • Wash your hands often with soap and water; if soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer;
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands;
    • Maintain safe food practices; and
    • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
