With recent unseasonal warm temperatures followed by below-zero conditions in the forecast, many residential streets have developed deep ruts, water pooling, and localized drainage challenges. These rapidly changing conditions can create mobility issues and, as temperatures drop, are expected to worsen as surfaces refreeze.
To respond, the City has mobilized all available equipment and is operating on extended hours to improve road access and address priority flooding and drainage concerns. Crews worked throughout yesterday targeting areas with significant water and ice accumulation, while also clearing and managing culverts, swales, and other key drainage points critical to keeping water moving and preventing refreezing.
The City will continue extended operations today, with additional crews scheduled through the weekend as conditions require. Because this unusual weather pattern is changing quickly, priorities are being reassessed throughout the day to ensure resources are directed where they are needed most.
Conditions will continue to change rapidly, and the City will assess, reprioritize, and move resources as needed. The current focus is on opening and maintaining access, which may result in some snow being stockpiled on roadways. While every effort is being made to minimize windrows being left by our equipment, due to the nature of conditions, some small windrows may be unavoidable.
We recognize that road conditions are frustrating, and we remind residents and motorists to please give operators the space they need to work, as indicated by blue and amber flashing lights. Drivers are also encouraged to adjust to winter conditions by slowing down and keeping a safe distance from other vehicles.
For specific concerns or locations requiring attention, residents are encouraged to submit a request through the City’s online Request for Service system. This allows staff to efficiently triage and prioritize issues across the community.
Updates will continue to be shared as work progresses and conditions evolve. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work to keep streets safe and accessible during this unseasonal weather event.
