The City of Martensville and members in the community dedicated to sport, recreation and culture in the City received good news from the Government of Canada and the Province of Saskatchewan today around funding support for a new multi-purpose community recreational facility.

Along with nine other projects across the Province, the City of Martensville has received funding through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP)- Rural and Northern Infrastructure stream.

The Mayor of Martensville, Kent Muench was elated to hear the news and what this will mean for the City and region, Muench noted, “This is such good news for our area.  It is going to take pressure off of local user groups and existing facilities, and be an asset for sport and culture in this region.  The economic spinoffs in terms of the construction and development of the facility are also going to provide a boost in the economy as will future visitors to our community that are using the facility.”

The Community Recreation Facility will receive $17.8 Million from the Government of Canada and an additional $14.8 Million from the Government of Saskatchewan.  The City of Martensville has dedicated $11.8 Million toward the $44 Million project.  Mayor Muench commended the work of the Martensville Community Recreation Project (MCRP), “ We are so glad to see the hard work of so many come together, putting so much of their time over the years to reach this goal and sticking to their vision. This is a big day for the MCRP and everyone involved in our community and sport and culture in our region,  I think everyone’s dedicated involvement through the years was a big part in the funding support from senior levels of government.”  

The Community Recreation Facility will include several features and be located west of Highway 12 in the future Trilogy Ranch subdivision.

Features included:
-One regulation-sized ice surface with spectator seating
-Leisure Ice Surface with skate changing area
-Full-size indoor artificial turf facility
-indoor rock climbing wall and indoor playground
-Multi-purpose rooms
-Concession areas

Construction of the project will be commencing in the coming weeks with the project tentatively scheduled to open in  September 2024.

The governments of Canada and Saskatchewan signed a bilateral agreement in 2018 for the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP). The program will provide more than $900 million in federal funding for all types of Saskatchewan infrastructure projects.
