Keeping in Touch with Residents- Message from the Mayor

It appears our active case numbers and our case rate here in Saskatchewan numbers is coming down slightly. While this is good news, the not-so-good news is that the vaccine supply continues at a slow pace, with less than 36,000 people vaccinated to date in our province.

I know it’s difficult, but now more than ever, it is crucial that we remain diligent in following the public health safety guidelines, particularly with the new variant of the virus now in Saskatchewan. Public health experts tell us this variant is more contagious, so please wear your mask in all public places, follow the safe distance guidelines, stay home if you are filling at all ill, and wash your hands often. Finally, please consider getting tested if you experience any COVID-19 symptoms, even if they are mild. Please call the HealthLine at 811, or your family physician, and take the online self-assessment at www.saskatchewan.ca/COVID19 to arrange for testing.

As of yesterday, there are 2,265 active cases of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan. There have been 24,806 cases and 22,086 of those have recovered. Saskatchewan families continue to lose loved ones to the virus – 329 people have died from the virus. Our condolences go out to all of the family and friends of those individuals.

Our City and Emergency Services continue to work with other municipalities and to share information from the Province to ensure the safety of our residents and staff.

A re-cap on City programs and services:

    • All priority programs and services continue to be provided.
    • The alternating water meter read/estimate schedule continues. With water usage typically higher in warmer months we encourage residents to keep accounts accurate and current by submitting your reading on your ‘estimate’ month.
    • City Hall, Wheatland Regional Library, the MAP, the Sports Centre, Northridge Centre and Heritage Centre are all open with occupancy limits in place and safety guidelines being followed. The MAP is open but all drop-in programs and pick up games are cancelled.
    • Water service will not be discontinued due to non-payment or overdue account status.

Another final safety note – it’s going to be a cold weekend. Please ensure you have a working carbon monoxide detector in your home. And check your intake pipe or exhaust vent often so that it doesn’t become blocked with snow or ice. A plugged exhaust could result in carbon monoxide being pushed back into your home or cause your furnace to shut down. Finally, have your furnace, fireplace, water heater and other fuel-burning appliances cleaned and inspected by a professional to make sure they work properly and don’t emit carbon monoxide.

With Family Day and the February break coming soon, check out the winter activities our staff and dedicated volunteers have planned for you. Information on Winter Wonderland, FunFest, the Schools Out! Program, cross country ski rentals, fire and ice creations workshop can be found on our Facebook Page. All activities will follow the COVID-19 safety rules.

Finally, we are excited to add a new pumptrack to Kinsmen Park this year and you have an opportunity to share with us what features you would like to see.  You or members of your family can visit our website to find information about pumptracks, the project and participate in a survey.  We would love for you to be part of this project.  Find the information here on our website, https://www.martensville.ca/pages/martensville_pumptrack.html

    Stay safe and healthy everyone!

    Sincerely,

    Mayor Kent Muench
