CITY OF MARTENSVILLE FINALIZES 2026 BUDGET
Martensville SK, April 9, 2026 – Martensville City Council has approved the 2026 Operating and Capital Budget at its April 7, 2026 Regular Council Meeting. This follows the approval of a Provisional Budget at a Special Council Meeting held on December 9, 2025. The finalized budget reflects updated assessment values and projections, ensuring a balanced financial plan that supports service delivery while positioning the community for continued growth.
The 2026 budget includes a 3.98% increase to property taxes. For the average single-family home, this represents an estimated increase of $95.17 annually, or approximately $7.93 per month. This increase will generate approximately $398,000 in additional revenue.
Overall operating revenues are budgeted at $26.0 million, an increase of $1.1 million (4.53%) over the previous year, while operating expenditures are projected at $21.3 million, an increase of $1.4 million (7.31%). These changes reflect rising costs, increased service demands, and targeted investments across multiple service areas. The operating surplus is reinvested in the City and utilized for capital investment, debt repayment, and reserve transfers for the future. The budget includes investments in staffing, service enhancements, and operational capacity, including approximately $150,900 for new staffing positions and expanded standby coverage for both Fire Department and Roadways operations. Additional investments include a $200,000 annual fleet leasing commitment and enhancements to fleet management systems to support long-term asset management.
The Budget included a five-year, 2026-2030 Capital Improvement Plan. The 2026 portion of the Capital Plan includes over $35.2 Million in projects for the upcoming year. Major projects include roadway expansion for a portion of Centennial Drive North, RCMP Building Upgrades, the joint water and wastewater upgrade and distribution project, capital repairs, and upgrades across facilities and parks for the City of Martensville.
“This budget reflects Council’s commitment to balancing affordability with the need to invest in our community,” said Mayor Kent Muench. “We’ve taken a thoughtful approach to ensure investments are targeted, services are maintained, and we’re planning responsibly for Martensville’s continued growth.”
Administration will continue to track financial performance throughout the year and provide regular updates to Council through quarterly variance reporting. The complete 2026 Final Budget document will be available on the City of Martensville website.
