Are You Emergency Ready? Emergency Preparedness Week May 6-12, 2018

    Be Emergency Ready

Emergency Preparedness Week May 6-12, 2018

MARTENSVILLE, SK May 10, 2018 – Emergency Preparedness Week is a national awareness initiative that has taken place annually since 1996. It is a collaborative event undertaken by provincial and territorial emergency management organizations in concert with Public Safety Canada.

In a few simple steps, you can help yourself and your family be better prepared in the event of an emergency.

First, ensure you can receive emergency alerts. Sign up to receive notifications from the City of Martensville’s emergency notification system, notifynow to receive alerts by text, email, on your cell phone or on your home phone. Download the SaskAlert app on your smartphone to receive alerts from specific areas throughout the province and severe weather alerts.  Sign up now.

Second, plan what you would do in the event of an emergency and make sure all members of your household know what to do. Making an emergency plan is not difficult. Using the instructions and template www.getprepared.ca you can put a plan together in about 20 minutes.

Finally, get some basic supplies together to make your emergency kit. Your emergency kit should allow you (and the members of your household) to be self-sufficient for 72 hours. Once you have the items for your kit, keep them together in a backpack or bag so that they are easy to grab if you need to leave your home in a hurry.
